Feed Your Kids Right With These Kids Recipes

Article by George Roy

After a hard day of play, a gaggle of kids runs in from the yard hungry and looking for something to eat. Meals made from kids recipes are often great food items that can bolster and refuel a child’s energy. The building blocks of a healthy body and healthy mind for a child start in the kitchen with healthy recipes for kids. Meals for kids that are wonderfully tasteful, as well as balanced in vitamins and minerals, are the ideal type of meal. When following recipes, the daunting task of making meals for kids can be made much simpler. The simplicity of kids recipes is perhaps the biggest draw as these recipes aren’t prone to using exotic or otherwise hard to obtain ingredients, and can often be made from common household foods. One should be stocked up well on the most basic of ingredients – flour, milk, eggs, butter, salt, vegetables and fruits. Pantry items that can stay fresh in a cool, dark place for a long time are great when used in these recipes – dried fruit and nuts do especially well.

Kids recipes are usually centered around a single wholesome carb in order to provide constant and even amounts of energy to the child’s metabolism. The carbohydrate is usually chosen because it is long lasting in the stomach and therefore cuts a child’s urges to snack on unhealthy foods. The most used carbohydrates are bread and rice, followed by potatoes. Rice pudding is one great option for a kids recipe based on carbohydrates and the meal can be dressed up with dried fruit or a small amount of sugar for a satisfying treat. Many other dessert type kids recipes are not diabetic sugar substitute friendly, but rice pudding most certainly is. The combination of nut butter and bread when used to make a sandwich is intensely filling and easy to make compared to other kids recipes. Because of their portability, these sandwiches do best in school lunch boxes.

A kids recipe that seems more difficult than it actually is to make is that of spaghetti with marinara sauce. This recipe has just two parts to it – the noodles and sauce – and is very easy to put together in less than half an hour. Because a child’s taste buds are more prone to spicy flavors, no pepper or salsa is included in this marinara sauce. For extra vegetable power, consider simmering celery until soft and adding it to the sauce. If you have a gluten sensitive or allergic child, this recipe is for you; there are many gluten free types of noodles.

Kids recipes can also be made fun with the inclusion of the child in the kitchen as well. Children usually enjoy the easier and simpler tasks like washing vegetables and making cold salads. Having a cookbook of kids recipes and allowing a child to choose their own dinner from it is a wonderful way to help a child feel included in meal decision making. Recipes designed for kids should always consist of a simple, fun approach to the cooking itself while maintaining a level of health and taste. Perhaps the most important aspect of any dish is that it retain all flavor.

How to Cook: Cooking Fundamentals for Novices

Article by Nikki Thomas

In regards to cooking, you will need to remember that that every person learned somewhere. I do not know a single person who was born with a wooden cooking spoon and ready to go. There is a great deal of researching that must be done in order to become a productive cook and after that there is certainly room for improvement. Not only do you have to begin with the basics when it comes to cooking but you almost need to begin again when learning to cook a new cuisine such as Chinese, Thai, or Indian food.

This means that at any given time in your cooking learning cycles there is quite in all probability someone somewhere that is better and/or worse at cooking than you. Take heart from this due to the fact that even the best have bad days when it comes to cooking. There are lots of people who cook for different reasons. Some cook in order to eat and survive while others cook because they actually benefit from the process of cooking. Some cook during times of emotional upheaval and others cook out of sheer boredom. Whatever your reason for cooking or learning to cook you must always begin with the basics.

The first thing you want to learn is what various terminology you will discover in recipes actually means. There are plenty of new and sometimes unfamiliar sounding terms that you will find in common recipes. These terms signifies the difference in recipe results or disappointment. You ll want to be able to find a good section in any complete cookbook that describes the different definitions for unfamiliar terminology. In case you are not certain what is meant by “folding in the eggs” it is in your best interests to look it up.

Yet another good tip with regards to cooking basics is to try less difficult recipes for a while and then expand your horizons to the more complex recipes that abound. The majority of recipes will have a little note about their level of difficulty and you can read through the recipe to see whether or not it is something you are interested in preparing or confident that you can prepare. Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day and it will take quite some time to build a trusty ‘repertoire’ of recipes to work into your meal planning rotation.

Fortunately if you really have discovered the basics associated with preparing food it is actually less likely that you are going to in the future have a need to relearn any of them. As a result you are able to continually proliferate as well as enhance your cooking talent. When you gain knowledge of innovative recipes and increase your food preparation skills and talents you can see fixing your own daily meals right from the start is a lot more fulfilling compared to preparing processed meals that are purchased from the shelves of your local supermarkets.

Additionally you will find as your knowledge and self-confidence grows that you will find yourself more and more in many cases improvising as you go and tweaking recipes to meet your personal style. If you prefer more or less of ingredients or want to make a recipe a little more or less spicy in flavor you can make simple adjustments along the way in order to achieve this goal. In other words you will begin in time to create recipes of your very own. And that is something you won’t necessarily learn when it comes to basic cooking skills for beginners but you would never learn if you didn’t master those basic cooking skills.

Garlic Shrimp Recipe

Hawaii is known for its white sand beaches, tropical climate and fun water sports. But any food lover wil tell you that the real draw on Oahu is the fresh garlic shrimp, served at roadside shrimp trucks along the North Shore. Chef Jason Hill shows you how to make garlic shrimp scampi modeled after the famous shrimp shacks in Kahuku. At our favorite stop, Giovanni’s shrimp truck, in Kahuku, each plate includes 12 shrimp with two mounds of steamed sticky calrose rice and a lemon wedge. We hope you enjoy this — it’s almost a perfect replica of Giovanni’s shrimp. Mahalo! Hawaiian Shrimp Truck Scampi 10 shell-on U-15 (extra large) shrimp, deveined 1 head (10 cloves) garlic, peeled and roughly chopped 1 cup flour 2 tablespoons paprika 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (1 tablespoon for spicier tastes) 1/2 stick clarified butter (see our video recipe) 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/8 cup white wine 2 tablespoons regular butter To begin, rinse and thaw your large shrimp in cool running water. Lightly pat dry. In a wide tupperware dish, place the flour, paprika and cayenne pepper. Mix lightly with your hands and coat each piece of shrimp on both sides. Heat saute pan over high heat. Add clarified butter and garlic. Stir for 1 minute, then add all of the shrimp, which has been coated in the flour mixture. Saute 3 minutes on each side. After 3 minutes on the second side, add the 1/8 cup of white wine and 2 tablespoons butter. Saute, turning shrimp occasionally, until it reaches a caramel brown color …
